South Florida is a great vacation spot for people who want to feel the sun on their skin and the sand on their feet. While enjoying the Florida beaches and all the outdoor activities Florida has to offer, there are precautions to keep in mind while out in the hot sun. Temperatures have been rising to feel like they are 100+ degrees.  We all must be careful, as summer temperatures can reach dangerous levels. Here are a few hot weather tips to keep you safe from any heat-related illnesses.

  1. Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

  2. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest hours of the day, like the morning and evening.

  3. Protect your skin by applying sunscreen. Sunburn can affect your body’s ability to cool down and can make you dehydrated.

  4. Cut down outdoor exercise during the high heat. If the exertion in the heat is making you gasp for breath or become lightheaded, weak or faint, stop and get into a cool place.

  5. To get some exercise, consider your local mall and walk around in the air-conditioned building while window shopping.

  6. Stay in an air-conditioned place as much as possible.

  7. NEVER leave children or animals in the car. Cars can quickly heat up to dangerous temperatures even with the windows cracked open.

An article in the Miami Herald states, according to a climate advocacy group called the Union of Concerned Scientists, that by mid-century, Florida could have more days that feel like 100 degrees than any state by mid-century. Miami-Dade is potentially the hottest region, with the rest of Florida not far behind. As the temperatures and the humidity rises, it gets harder for your body to cool down. At Ample insurance, we want you to be aware of the dangers of the heat, so please use these helpful safety tips to stay cool and healthy.  If you have any insurance needs or questions, call us at 321-222-1488 for any questions or email us at
